How Garden Light Can Transform Your Garden

There’s nothing quite like the pleasure of tending to a garden full of lush greenery, flowers and trees. But the problem is, at night time they can look a little forlorn. Adding some garden light can transform your garden into an evening destination at any time of the year.

Garden lighting is available in a range of styles, from subtle to dramatic, and you can light up individual plants, pathways, seating areas or even a whole garden area. Lighting up stone walls creates an interesting play of shadow and contrast with the texture of the wall – ideal for traditional, cottage or country gardens. A similar effect can be achieved by uplighting trees, which will highlight the tree canopy and reveal a wonderful mix of foliage.

LED lights are longlived and cost effective to run, and work well as recessed lights in paving or decking. They also work well as feature lights to illuminate pots or planters. Some can be fitted with a dusk to dawn sensor, or a motion sensor.

String lights have become a popular, quirky garden design addition in recent years and can help to set the mood for an outdoor dining area. Some of these come with a built in battery and are rechargeable, which makes them even more convenient. Others work from the mains or through a transformer that provides 12 or 24 volt low voltage current – and will need to be installed by a professional electrician.
